Building my kit
I can’t remember a time that I did not love beauty products! When I was a little girl my mom used to blow dry my long blonde hair while I organized her makeup. Needless to say, the passion for beauty was imprinted upon me at an early age. Since then, I have become quite a collector of makeup. My dream has always been to become a makeup artist. I worked for Dior beauty right out of college and even went back to school to receive my esthetics license. After a wedding, buying a house, and having two boys I am finally ready to embark on this journey. This blog is a journal about what it takes to go after your dream, even when you may be scared shitless!
The first thing that you must have when you are a makeup artist is a kit. Thinking about everything you may need is overwhelming, not only for your wallet but making decisions on what brands and products to choose. The first thing I chose to buy was foundation. I did a lot of research and decided on RCMA (The Research Council of Makeup Artists) VK Palettes, #10 and #11. They are vegan, wax based, contain 50% pigment, and come in palettes so you do not have to carry around a ton of foundation bottles. In addition to the VK palettes I also picked up the RCMA Highlight and Countor palette and the notorious RCMA No Color Powder. The last two things I picked up in my beauty haul were Inglot Cosmetics Eye Makeup Base and Embryolisse Laite-Creme Concentre. I picked up all these goods from Beautylish.com, they are one of my favorite beauty websites! Not only is there customer service the jam, they carry a great variety of brands.
When I attended aesthetics school I was blessed to be able to visit the corporate office of Anisa International. Anisa Interantional is the company that creates and manufactures makeup brushes for some of the top cosmetic companies. While there, I was able to purchase brushes at whole-sale and came away with just about every brush I could ever need (Did I mention I have a problem when it comes to buying beauty products, it is like a drug for me).
Finally, when I was doing makeup for a salon in Inman park I was able to inherit a number of AVEDA products. These will be rounding out my kit along with a couple of never used personal products. I know that I will pick up many products along the way with the more experience I gain. I have been using building my kit as a crutch to not launch my business because I have been nervous about putting myself out there. Well it is time to conquer my fears, insecurities and go after my dreams. I am officially open for business!
